Learn the secrets of making quilted portraits from whimsical and cartoon-like silly selfie postcards to accurately proportioned quilted portraits. You will discover that it isn’t nearly as hard as you imagined. Learn to choose your photo, draft a pattern, and create a fusible appliqué quilted portrait. At the end of the class, Lyric will also demonstrate how she uses technology as a tool as you get seriously silly with your selfies.

Learn routine care and maintenance on your Featherweight sewing machine. Bring your working machine to class to clean, lube and adjust. We will cover proper threading, bobbin winding, tension adjustments, oiling moving parts, lubrication of gears and motor, belt adjustment or replacement, light bulb replacement, and proper sewing tips and techniques. Limited to 10 students.

This class will teach the beginning quilter about fabrics, supplies, how to cut, sew and press accurately. Students will make placemats. This class is being offered to beginning quilters only. Students must bring their own sewing machine in good working order.

Students in this class will learn several advanced embroidery stitches including bullion rose, beaded coral stitch, drizzle stitch and several others. Students should already know the backstitch, chain stitch, stem stitch, fly stitch, blanket stitch and either French knot or colonial knot.

10. Jennifer Golden – Eclectica Set Spinning

This is a new, modern quilt pattern. Using a set-in square with a partial-seam technique, a woven illusion will appear. If you choose three main colors and a high-contrast background the woven effect will stand out! This pattern uses a layer cake (at least 36 squares) and high-contrast background fabric which will make the quilt pop!

Kite blocks are the focus of this quilt that look like it is set against a darkened sky. A perfect design for someone who likes a little challenge. This is a template quilt with Evening Kites templates within the pattern. Four different quilt blocks make up this quilt; 3 different Kite blocks and the Hidden Star block is made up of square-in-a-square blocks. The setting is “on point” so new techniques will be instructed.

12. Robin Dempsey – Compass Rose

Two options are pictured.
The pattern pack we will be using will create two 16″ square Compass Rose blocks and six 6-1/2″ x 11″ Flying Geese blocks. We will be using the Niemeyer paper-piecing method. Although these papers can be used to create various projects (which we will discuss during class), we will concentrate on only one of the Compass Rose blocks for the circular or octagonal table topper.

Machelle was inspired to make this quilt after experience with the eclipse. This quilt was designed by Frannie B. Quilt Company. Machelle designed the scalloped border. In the class two different blocks will be constructed. There will be a demo for the scalloped border and attaching the binding.

This class will introduce quilters to free-motion quilting on home sewing machines. Participants will use a small pieced project that they bring to class. Discover the freedom of free-motion quilting. This is a low-stress, inspiring environment to get a feel for moving a quilt under a home sewing machine.
